Does anyone have one of these? Do they work in areas with poor reception? I'm going to be out in the boonies and I'm worried I won't get calls. BellMTS, in Spruce Woods Provincial Park if it matters.
And does anyone have one I can borrow for a day?

The good ones that work well are permanent(ish) installations that required noticeable amounts of power, heavy coax, and MANY feet of separation between two antennas. You could borrow the one I have, but I think it's 3G only and the whole setup weighs ~30lbs. Also I know exactly where it is... to a roughly 500sqft accuracy :-D. The handheld type that strap onto the back of a phone are of dubious benefit, but at least they aren't massive and heavy? -Adam

Best Buy (e.g.) has a few from $250-$750. I can't quite justify it for one night, though. They seem less bulky than what you described.

Kevin, if you have Wifi there some cell providers like Rogers (for good reason I'm not endorsing them) provide a free upgrade to Wifi Cell connect. But they have to install and at first it may be buggy until you and them get it properly configured, including your ph.
I live in an area with very poor intermittent connection even G5 but with this option I even get great reception in the basement. When you move outside your Wifi reception area the Cell goes back to basic Cell.
Adam, curious doe your note mean its stashed somewhere in a 22foot sq or so room? :) I'm asking as with a world view of dyslexia readily known language code to others can be a mystery. :)

It's somewhere in a box in ~1/3 of my basement. I think. It's no longer actually useful in Manitoba, the antenna and electronics support too old a standard. -Adam

Yeah, turns out I needed 4G/LTE. There was some 3G reception but apparently 3G no longer supports data, just calls and SMS.

Hi kevin, we have a Uniden LTE it's actually quite big about the size of a laptop about double the thickness there's got to be a minimum of 20 ft vertically between the receiving antenna and sending antenna I happen to have ours hooked up on a 80 ft Tower up on top of the hill behind our house because we're out in the boonies in the middle of nowhere and it works absolutely fantastic for about 350 ft around the antenna can't quite make it to the horse shed or the barn but it works in the shop the house it's all good it was about 1100 bucks when we purchased it but that's quite a few years ago.
