I have a pair of Corsair 1G DDR2 DIMMs. Anyone have a use for them? Free. They were from what I think is the only motherboard I have that accepts DDR2 RAM, and its DIMM sockets are full of other stuff. CM2X1024-5400C4 4-4-4-12 675 MHz 1024 MB XMS2-5400

Exim error

SSH? Routing?

Here's a new one for me: I've got this set up: Shaw ISP --> Netgear WNDR3700v2 router --> <my main network 192.168.7.0> --> WRT54G (OpenWRT) --> <my secondary network 192.168.8.0> When I SSH from 192.168.8.99 to 192.168.7.100, I get this: The authenticity of host '192.168.7.100 (192.168.7.100)' can't be established. RSA key fingerprint is 8b:a...4:09. Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? yes Warning: Permanently added '192.168.7.100' (RSA) to the list of known hosts. me(a)192.168.7.100's password: I enter the password, and there it hangs indefinitely. Any guesses what's happening? I've turned off all firewall stuff in the WRT54G. Also, I'm using PuTTY, and I can't break out of it with ^C or any other signal. Very weird. Kevin

/usr/sfw/bin or /opt/sfw/bin depending on the version. And that is standard gcc, although probably a bit old. At work here I have a "SunOS cowsvpsunfire 5.10 Generic_142909-17 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V490" (from uname -a) with the "sol_10_910_sparc" disc mounted. This system appears to have no "cc" or "gcc" (according to "which"). Which package(s) from the CD do I need to install to have a basic C command-line compiler available? I'm trying to compile Iozone (iozone.org) and the makefile run says "sh: cc: not found".

fast counting with find

I found myself needing a type of -limit -quit option in find. I couldn't see a built-in way to do it, even with GNU find. GNU find does let you count to 1 and quit, simply by using -quit, but not count to X then quit. Why do I want to quit at all? Why not just do find|wc -l? The dirs I'm scanning have about 200k files and are sometimes over NFS. Either way, a full find|wc takes a long time and a lot of resources, especially if the find has to do a stat (for mtime, etc). With find|wc my 1 find command took 10+ mins. With my new method, it's a few seconds. Here's the best solution I could think up. It's sub-optimal I'm sure (requires execs and a temp file), but I couldn't see an easier way to do it within the confines of find (without writing my own find, which I didn't want to do in this case). See the find command example on line 6 of the script. Arg 1 is a temp file path (normal race condition safety precautions apply). Revision control

Following up to last month's meeting topic, I'm wondering if anyone can help me choose a revision control system for my purposes. It'll be 2 developers (possibly more later, but always a small number). We'll share access into 1 box, but I'm thinking we'd prefer a system that lets us check out the complete source tree to our own dev boxes where we can code, and then merge back up changes. Also, it would be great if we could have a way to check out the current project into a dir that would then serve directly to the web (it's a php project). For example, I'd want a copy to dev on, the other guy would have a copy, and a 3rd copy (possibly older) would be the live web site. When commits are shown to be good, we'd check out into the live site. Hope that makes sense. I'm thinking CVS or subversion. I'm not sure this small project (maybe 30k lines of code) warrants the strangeness of git. Anything else I'm missing? I'd love to hear the pros/cons.
