In the Rails and Django crowds, the wind has been blowing toward PostgreSQL. Not sure if it's entirely warranted (a lot of problems can be solved by tuning MySQL properly) but ever since Oracle took over MySQL...

It's about time PostreSQL gets in the lime light. Also I just wanted to point out that Arch and Slackware made the switch to MariaDB back in March. Seems only natural for other distros to follow suit.
