Please forgive me if this is not appropriate for this mailing list. I purchased the pager in 2000 and stopped the service about a year or two later. Now I want to use it again as an appointment book so I got it out put in a battery and quickly found out that I forgot my password. I tried a few and now I only have 3 tries left. I'd like to completely reset the pager password and all and couldn't find out how to do that. fedora

I downloaded the iso's for fedora, burnt them, and did an install. The "everything" download was a bit more than 5 GIGS. Mozilla seems to be much faster. I like using fedora so far (I'm using a beta version). when I installed fedora it seemed to run quite faster right out of the box. I can't get MusicPlayer to play a MP3 because I can't browze for that file using the MusicPlayer. Detillieux) The Manitoba UNIX User Group (MUUG) will be holding its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 14. The meeting topic for this month is as follows: UNIX Printing with CUPS and LPRng This month, Adam Thompson gives us a look at printing under UNIX with the popular CUPS and LPRng systems. LPRng re-implements the traditional UNIX printing model, adding support for modern features. CUPS targets the much newer Internet Printing Protocol, but provides a traditional user interface for UNIX users. He'll try to provide some insight into the confusing variety of printer drivers that exist on Linux today. Time permitting, demonstrations will include setting up a printer and printing across a network. The group holds its general meetings at 7:30 PM on the second Tuesday of every month from September to June. (There are no meetings in July and August.) Meetings are open to the general public; you don't have to be a MUUG member to attend. ********************************************************************** Please note our new meeting location: The IBM offices, at 400 Ellice Ave. (between Edmonton and Kennedy). When you arrive, you will have to sign in at the reception desk, and then wait for someone to take you (in groups) to the meeting room. Please try to arrive by about 7:15 PM, so the meeting can start promptly at 7:30 PM. Don't be late, or you may not get in. Limited parking is available for free on the street, or in a lot across Ellice from IBM, for $1.00 for the evening. Two interesting Open Source publications

A report commisioned by the Federal Gov on the state of Open Source in Canada. It include a index containing many Open Source Canadian companies http://www.e-cology.ca/canfloss/report/ A book written by a Canadian does a very good job of analysing the issues around open source, copyright, etc. Free as in speech and beer - opensource, peer-to-peer and the economics of the online revolution. Software Patents

I'm new to MUUG so I hope this isn't out of line for the mailing list... As I'm sure most of you are aware, there has been a lot of activity recently in the European Union regarding software patents. Understandably, many OpenSource advocates were mortified that the EU was considering passing a bill which many perceived as opening the door to software patents similar to the system currently in place in the US. While I was thinking how grateful I am that I live in country without absurd software patent laws I suddenly had a horrifying thought... Exactly what is the state of software patents in Canada? I have heard rumours the US is strong-arming other nations into adopting legislation similar to the DMCA so can software patents be far behind? If there was a change to patent legislation in the works to allow software patents in Canada, would we be able to get organized enough to make our views known to legislators as they have done in the EU?
