voip summary?

Hi: I was wondering if Shawn could post the URL to the $13 newegg cards? Also I'm not quite sure I understand what this part would allow me to do? With this card it is possible to convert an analog line into a "digital" line that voip phones on my network could talk to? and then the card would do the calling and converting back to analog? weird dns problems (possibly resolved)
by theodore 10 Nov '04

10 Nov '04

I think I fixed the dns problem which I described at the meeting. It seems that web browsers are much more picky about dns timeouts (Especailly on mac). I added a line to my bind config to use my ISP's dns servers as forwarders (which I am told is the "right" way to do it anyways) and it seems to have fixed the problem, and surfing is visibly quicker to start now. Firefox release party!
by John Lange 09 Nov '04

09 Nov '04

======== Firefox release party! Firefox v1.0 was officially released today and we are having a party! On Saturday November 20th starting at 8pm there will be an "official" Firefox release party at Bar Italia on Corydon ave. Bar Italia was selected for it's central location and the fact that it has free public WiFi access. Event details and a signup form are here: http://www.openforce.at/mozparty2/?party=207 (Signup is optional but it gives us some idea of the numbers to expect) This is an informal event so there will be no long speeches, just chatting and conversing with other FireFox users. Of course, FireFox runs on all major operating systems so all users are welcome! We are in the process of rounding up some door prizes (donations welcome). ======= -- John Lange OpenIT ltd. When I disabled the screen saver (or at least the parts that used the OpenGL) everything was fine. Greetings all, I realize it is a little last minute, but the company I work for is holding a technology exhibit at the Sharaton Hotel tomorrow, Nov 4 from 9am to 4pm. There will be Linux presentations from HP and Forecast technology as well as many other interesting sessions targeted to SMB. Best of all it is free and includes a decent lunch, too. Please visit www.epic.ca for more details.

by gedetil＠cs.umanitoba.ca 01 Nov '04

01 Nov '04

[Posted to man.unix.general and other news groups] ------ Forwarded Article <cm63cl$rh7$1(a)canopus.cc.umanitoba.ca> ------ From gedetil(a)cs.umanitoba.ca (Gilbert E. Detillieux) The Manitoba UNIX User Group (MUUG) will be holding its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 9. The meeting topic for this month is as follows: Building a Transparent Bridging Firewall with OpenBSD Shawn Wallbridge will be presenting on how to create a transparent bridging firewall with OpenBSD 3.6. Shawn will demonstrate setting up the firewall, and will (time permitting) show how to use OpenBSD's pf firewall to monitor bandwidth usage, and getting the usage numbers into MySQL with some Perl. The group holds its general meetings at 7:30 PM on the second Tuesday of every month from September to June. (There are no meetings in July and August.) Meetings are open to the general public; you don't have to be a MUUG member to attend. ********************************************************************** Please note our new meeting location: The IBM offices, at 400 Ellice Ave. (between Edmonton and Kennedy). When you arrive, you will have to sign in at the reception desk, and then wait for someone to take you (in groups) to the meeting room. Please try to arrive by about 7:15 PM, so the meeting can start promptly at 7:30 PM. Don't be late, or you may not get in. Limited parking is available for free on the street, or in a lot across Ellice from IBM, for $1.00 for the evening. Indoor parking is also available nearby, at Portage Place, for $2.00 for the evening. ********************************************************************** For more information about MUUG, and its monthly meetings, check out their Web server: http://www.muug.mb.ca/ Also note that MUUG maintains two mailing lists, called "muug-announce" and "roundtable". If you're not already on these lists, we encourage you to subscribe now: http://www.muug.mb.ca/mailman/listinfo/ The "muug-announce" list is used for monthly meeting announcements (such as this one) as well as other important announcements of interest to MUUG members. The "rountable" list is meant to be a forum for follow-ups to topics discussed at the meetings, or for round-table-style discussion on other topics that come up between meetings. Of course, for this to be effective, we need to reach a certain critical mass. So, please subscribe, and stay involved! -- Gilbert E.
