SpamAssassin false positives on DATE_IN_FUTURE_96_Q?

I mentioned this problem at the last round-table session, but didn't get a solution, so I thought I'd post it here, just in case anyone has any suggestions to offer. I'm still seeing a whole bunch of false positives in SpamAssassin, since an update was installed in mid-September on a CentOS 5.7 system, for a rule called DATE_IN_FUTURE_96_Q, which is only supposed to be triggered when the "Date:" header has a date that is 4 days to 4 month ahead of the date in the "Received" header that has the _smallest_ difference in date. Here are the headers from the latest e-mail I've received with this false-positive. (I've stripped out irrelevant headers, for the sake of clarity and simplicity.) Winnipeg Harvest donations from December meeting - thank you!

Thanks to the generosity of our members, we were able to donate three large boxes’ worth of non-perishable food items to Winnipeg Harvest in December 2010. FW: CIRA consultation on accented domain names

CIRA, the .ca domain registrar, is proposing to allow a restricted subset of IDNs (Internationalized Domain Names) in order to support accented French characters in domain names. If you speak or write in French, this will likely affect you at some point. If you use any .ca domain names, this may still affect you, although probably in less direct ways. Speaking only on my own behalf (specifically: MUUG does not currently have an official position on the matter), I encourage anyone who cares about our national ccTLD to review the information CIRA has made available, form an opinion, and voice your opinion promptly. IMHO, this is even more important than voting – if we choose poorly in an election, we have the opportunity to collectively change our minds in five years or less (usually four), whereas the CIRA IDN policy is likely to affect Canadians and Canada itself for decades to come. There’s no automatic reconsultation in four years, and there’s no built-in review process for decisions taken by NGOs like CIRA. In fact, once a decision like this is made, there may be no recourse at all if we collectively decide we don’t like the result. It’s obvious to me that CIRA is expecting to make a tidy sum of money by doing this (otherwise I believe they would be taking a different direction altogether), which I believe is OK as long as the internet-using-public’s interests are still served. I already have an opinion on the matter, and I’ll be making a submission. CIRA is effectively an NGO [I can’t tell what their legal status is right now], and they’re voluntarily doing the right thing by consulting the public – they’re not obligated to do so – but that consultation process is only effective if CIRA members express their opinions. Anyone here use it and wouldn't mind the imposition of demo'ing it? Having used pine for well at least a decade the Maildir patch is largely umzaintained since I updated/maintained it back in 4.3. I keep hearing mutt is better and I'd like to see why and I'm sure others on this list would too. -- Sean (mobile)

a un*x admin tool paging by default

Am I the only one this ticks off (enough to make a bugzilla)? https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=768601 Only the devil himself (or Windows people) would page output by default in an admin tool. The only other un*x app I've ever seen this with is postgres's interactive command line. Go to the bugzilla (if you have an account) and cc: yourself (equivalent to voting at RH bugzilla it would seem).

boot / fsck debug shells

Further to Gilbert's debug shell keyboard issues: I've been dealing with lots of md upgrade problems lately and non-boot scenarios. Not sure if you're seeing the same thing, but what's worked great for me is boot with kernel args: rdshell rddebug. Don't use the sushell or whatever it was you were mentioning as that forces your login. When the system can't boot due to md / fsck it will drop you in a rdshell (real crap shell) without any pw prompt. From there you can run mdadm commands, and probably fsck, to get your system bootable. In fact, once you get your / fs alive you can mount it to /sysroot and type "exit" and the system will boot as normal! Once in the live system you can run "dracut" (possibly with --force) to create a fixed/bootable rd. Assuming that's your problem. I've used this TONS lately when upgrading linux boxes from non-raid to md raid or small disks (raid) to bigger disks (raid). Any situation where your drive labels/uuids/majors/minors change can fark up your booting. This lets you fix it (without OS reinstall). Had a horrible time just this last week where I had booting md complain that sda3 and sda shared a md superblock and it wouldn't boot. Even with the above tools, I couldn't get it to boot without manual rdshell intervention until I revamped the whole disk so that there was a tiny bit of space at the very end of the disk, so sda had its own tiny area at the end (and I zeroed its superblock). Anyhow, just thought perhaps there may be some overlap in problems and I could save you some headache. Linux: the (nearly) only OS you can always fix and never need to reinstall (upgrade or wipe/install). Love it! (Note to others, this stuff may be RH/Fedora specific as I have no idea if other distros use dracut or provide rdshell.)
