This is very likely a Gmail issue. You are openly using a Gmail address, and Adam might be using Gmail infrastructure to implement e-mail on his own domain name, just like I do. Gmail was for about a decade long the best of the "3 big boys" (Gmail, MS Mail, Yahoo), but in the last 1½ years, Gmail has caused endless trouble in their aggressive zeal to be/become number 1 in anti-spam (driven by consumer demand, at the expense of our sanity as IT professionals). I have spent the last 1½ years doing workarounds for both myself and a handful of customers and colleagues. Among many issues, Gmail has been deliberately discarding e-mails by their goofy anti-spam algorithms (both while sending and receiving) without any notification whatsoever to sender or receiver, which is almost unprecedented in the e-mail world. Some time ago, I started a MUUG RoundTable thread here about some Gmail issues, and I believe there was a good discussion. User to Super-user to career change

Good day, I'm interested in making a drastic career change and want to get a better feel for where I fit. I'm a Red Seal electrician and an instructor at RRC but have always wanted to work in tech. The tricky part is that I'm 42, married with 2 kids, 2 cats and a mortgage. And the cats eat a LOT. I either need to get in at an intermediate position or at least have the opportunity to rise to that point fairly quickly. I've been studying Linux Sys Admin courses in my evenings and am close to getting my LPIC-1 certification. I also have a strong programming background. At this point I could go either way, towards software development or system administration. The friends I have spoken to suggest that it is either-or, that programming and sysadmin do not go together in most regular jobs. I'm putting together a portfolio of projects I've worked on at home, raspberry pi stuff, messing with my network, and also my GitHub profile. My two questions are: 1. What's available to me and what is a reasonable expectation for a first job? 2. What else can I do to add business value to my skills? Thanks in advance, I feel awkward asking this here but after slow-burning this idea for 3 years I need to make a change before I spend another 25 in the wrong job. CS

The Manitoba UNIX User Group (MUUG) will be holding its next monthly meeting online, on Tuesday, October 12th, at 7:30pm: Ardour Audio Software This month, Troy Denton will be presenting Ardour. Available on Linux (as well as macOS and Windows), Ardour allows you to record, edit, mix and master audio and MIDI projects. If you are an audiophile, or a beginner wanting to know how to get into audio manipulation, or just curious and like to see audio represented graphically, then this presentation is for you. RTFM Katherine Skrupa will be talking about grepcidr, a tool that filters input by IP addresses and networks, using both IPv4 and IPv6. The grepcidr command can be very useful in networks, including mail filtering, network security and log analysis. This will once again be an online meeting. Apache reverse-proxy woes, solved

I finally figured out what I had to do to make Apache 2.4 happy... 1) Unlike everything else in Apache, <Location> blocks are LAST-match-wins, not first. 2) If you have ProxyPass xxx configured in, say, <Location /> and then have <Location /server-status>, you must add a "ProxyPass !" directive in every more-specific location. This is because all Location blocks get *merged* at parse-time into a single config data structure, apparently. So by re-ordering <location> blocks and adding "ProxyPass !" to the namespace bits I didn't want to proxy, it works. -Adam

A reminder that the MUUG online meeting will be on Jitsi this evening... The Manitoba UNIX User Group (MUUG) will be holding its next monthly meeting online, on Tuesday, September 14th, at 7:30pm: tmux(1) - THE terminal multiplexer This month, following up on his newsletter article from June, Brad Vokey will demonstrate tmux(1). tmux enables a number of terminals to be created, accessed, and controlled from a single screen. It can then be detached from your screen and continue running in the background, and then reattached later. Each session is persistent and will survive accidental disconnection (such as a ssh(1) connection timeout) or intentional detaching. Each session can also be attached to multiple different terminals, for easy access to your running server processes and current environment from multiple different computers all at the same time. Brad will go over the basic commands and concepts and will also demonstrate the tmux plug-in manager (tpm) showing us some useful plug-ins including: - tmux-resurrect (persists tmux environment across system restarts) - tmux-yank (tmux plugin for copying to system clipboard) - tmux-autoreload - Watches your tmux configuration file and automatically reloads it on change. - tmux-continuum - Continuous saving of your tmux environment. Automatic restore when tmux is started. Automatic tmux start when computer is turned on. and possibly more, if time permits! This will once again be an online meeting. Godot open source game engine

Any game developers on this list? Godot (https://godotengine.org/) is an open-source game engine - I'd call it a viable alternative to the Unity game engine. I recently participated in a "stop waiting for godot" game jam. The idea being, learning this new game engine and making a simple game over a weekend.
