Detillieux) The Manitoba UNIX User Group (MUUG) will be holding its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 8. The meeting topic for this month is as follows: Linux in the Enterprise - Configuration and Management As Linux moves into the enterprise, configuration and management tools are needed. Sun is working on a facility called APOC (A Point of Control) that manages desktop configuration and management. This talk describes what APOC is and how it works. Willem van Schaik, SunPS engineer, will be our presenter for this topic. The group holds its general meetings at 7:30 PM on the second Tuesday of every month from September to June. (There are no meetings in July and August.) Meetings are open to the general public; you don't have to be a MUUG member to attend. ********************************************************************** Please note our new meeting location: The IBM offices, at 400 Ellice Ave. (between Edmonton and Kennedy). When you arrive, you will have to sign in at the reception desk, and then wait for someone to take you (in groups) to the meeting room. Please try to arrive by about 7:15 PM, so the meeting can start promptly at 7:30 PM. Don't be late, or you may not get in. Limited parking is available for free on the street, or in a lot across Ellice from IBM, for $1.00 for the evening. What's up with the MUUG servers?

Just a "heads up"... Tried to get the Fedora 2 CDs and neither the web or ftp servers will connect. It's always best to wait for about a week before getting new distros. This way the mad rush is over. The RedHat servers are slow as molassas. Linux Live CD to edit Windows registry

I found a program called chntpw which claims in /usr/doc/RIP/regedit.txt that it is a: "full basic registry edit with add/del keys and values and resizing values" for NT. I got this CD from Issue 36 of LinuxUser, an English Linux magazine in which RIP was included ( Recover_Is_Possible ). The web site given is: http://www.tux.org/pub/people/kent-robotti/looplinux/rip/ I can't say if it works because I have not tried it.

As I've said above, it sounds like what you've produced should work fine on players that can handle MP3 discs. But if you want standard CDDA format, you'll need to decode the MP3 files (mplayer or mpg123 can do this for you), then you need to record those audio files, preferably in DAO (disc at once) mode, to a CD-R (cdrecord or cdrdao can do that). You should be able to find a tutorial online to help you do this, just by doing a Google search with enough of the techie buzzwords I've given you here. :) -- Gilbert E. That all depends on what's currently in /tmp, and what's still in use. For example, a lot of sockets used by X11 and the various graphics libraries get set up in /tmp, and removing them while running X might break things. Feel free to get rid of any large regular files in /tmp, as they're likely not needed after their initial use, and don't sweat the small stuff. Put your mp3's into a subdirectory of /tmp, though, so they're not lost in the mess. -- Gilbert E. Actually, I wouldn't put either of the above xcyb repositories in the default yum.conf if you're running automatic yum updates via cron. I'd put them in an alternative configuration file, and just specify that manually when you want to get something from the xcyb repositories. For example... yum -c /etc/yum-xcyb.conf update Of course, you won't get automatic updates for any packages at those repositories, but they're not likely to be critical anyway. For some sites that provide alternative versions of packages that are part of the base distribution, it might be safer to not have the "updated" automatically. -- Gilbert E.
