Maybe not in time for many people (assuming on-time filing), but perhaps useful for the future:
After much messing around, I got StudioTax personal tax software to run on Linux using Wine! Better, yet, I also got it running in Wine in firejail to keep the Windows software jailed up unable to misbehave.
StudioTax is 100% free (as in beer, but not as in FLOSS) Canadian personal (and sm.bus sole prop. non-T2 business) tax software (donation-ware). Brad & I have been using them for years, ever since CoolTax stopped. If you're half decent at accounting and taxes, forget for-pay QuickTax/TurboTax!
It's a bit trickier than most other Windows software on Wine because it requires .NET 4.5 and .NET needs quite a few tricks to work in Wine and firejail (ugh).
I'm having lots of fun with wine/dosbox (and firejail!) lately and I've *nearly* gotten to the point where I do not require a Windbloze box anymore. Just an ancient Quickbooks (should be easy) and EAC (maybe not so much) to go and I may just turn my Windbloze box off for good!

Unfortunately, StudioTax is no longer free.

But $15 is still very reasonable.
Great info for next year... I understand that win10 will be a pay as you go monthly or yearly platform by then.... and only the wifes box is win10

Darn. I guess not enough people donation-wared in previous years.
I hadn't noticed yet as I have been filling in fields (it lets you install and use) but not attempting to netfile yet.
So it's $15 for 20 returns (enough for our 3 returns, at $5/return). Not bad. I like it because it's reliable and error free and CRA likes it and I have had zero grief filing with it for, what, around 10 years? And it's a 100% Canadian company. The downsides are it's .NET and really clunky/ugly.
If you're under $20k you can also file for free, so there's that. And if you're a really cheap bbbbbbb you could always use the software for all the math/calcs/optimization then transfer what it shows to the paper forms :-)
Hi Trevor and fellow MUUG members,
Three notes in one:

Regarding Studio Taxes does anyone happen to know the over ride key strokes function? It would be a real time saver or me, so if you would please?
Regarding your earlier note on the MUUG renewal. Wow! How quickly 2 yrs have past since I first joined using your nifty Credit card cell phone reader! Then last year with ongoing limitations at MUUG end you advanced a credit card alternative to paypal which I avoid like many MUUG members with Gates. I'm heavy into taxes so I'll catch up with you in May between farming and seeding priorities.
Lastly as a bit of personal info from my last year's Christmas friend letter of a near death and significant concussion when at 90 K I slammed into a semi who cut me off crossing the passing lane in a 110K zone to do a left hand turn at an uncontrolled field road type intersection. Thank-fully with many fantasic first responders etc I'm nearly all back again but sure has been an eye-opener how concussion can be very similar metaphorically to the hidden damage of soft-tissue damage like a whip-lash.. Next, having experienced a serious motor vehicle accident last summer https://winnipeg.ctvnews.ca/70-year-old-left-with-serious-injuries-after-cra...
