Intel serves up Manitoba

Found at http://zdnet.com.com/2110-1105-932153.html: Intel is adding one more item to its menu of dishes for wireless cell phone makers. The company confirmed on Tuesday that the code name for the "Internet on a chip" processor it's been working on since last year is "Manitoba" and that it plans to announce the chip in 2002. Manitoba integrates flash memory, a digital signal processor, and an XScale processor core onto a single chip. It will be targeted at cell phone makers developing products for high-speed wireless networks, such as GPRS (General Pack Radio Service) networks. Manitoba will help in the development of phones that let users wirelessly access the Web and play audio files, as well as make basic phone calls. --Richard Shim, Special to ZDNet News [No word yet on why they chose "Manitoba".]

72 pin SIMM

Does anyone out there have any ancient 72 pin SIMM they don't need? I'd preferr a pair of 16 Meg chunks since this P 133 takes memory in pairs, but I'm interested in 8 or even 32 Meg chunks if there's two of them. I intend on using this powerful P 133 beast as an server for an LTSP network for a couple of 486s, just to see how LTSP works..

Detillieux) The Manitoba UNIX User Group (MUUG) will be holding its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 11. The meeting topic for this month is as follows: OpenBSD Network Security and VPNs Continuing with last month's presentation on OpenBSD, this month Shawn, Chris and Sean will be setting up an OpenBSD firewall. They will be talking about pf, the new firewall built into OpenBSD 3.0. Also discussed will be VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) and setting up an IPSEC VPN using OpenBSD's isakmpd. The group holds its general meetings at 7:30 PM on the second Tuesday of every month from September to June. (There are no meetings in July and August.) Meetings are open to the general public; you don't have to be a MUUG member to attend. ********************************************************************** Please note our new meeting location: The IBM offices, at 400 Ellice Ave. (between Edmonton and Kennedy). Web Bugs

I've been reading an alarming article in 2600 "How to Regain Privacy on the Net" which mentions web bugs. There doesn't seem to be much defense against these little critters. I've checked http://freshmeat.net but there doesn't seem to be much there. Is there any software I can use in Linux to keep these web bugs off my computer, or to detect these bugs if they are already in it ?

According to the BBC web site; http://news.bbc.co.uk SuSE, Caldera, TurboLinux, and Connectiva have agreed upon a common core system, called United Linux, which should come into effect at the end of 2002. Red Hat has been invited to join.

Socket dump utility

G'Day, Does anyone know if there is a program that will do a trap on a port similiar to a tcpdump on an interface? I have a programmer with some code problems and he suspects it might be before the data comes out the port. He asked if I had such a beast that could trap port outputs. Does such a utility exist? procedure for setting up tftp server RH 7.2

G'Day, Does anyone have a procedure for configuring tftp server on RH7.2? I have installed the rpm and can start the server. It appears in a netstat -aln till I try and access it. The daemon then drops and has to be manually restarted. I am looking for a setup procedure or a link to a procedure if anyone has had success. Enclosed is the /etc/xinetd.d/tftp configuration so far: # default: off # description: The tftp server serves files using the trivial file transfer \ # protocol. Personal Linux Fnance App

I've been using Quicken since the late 80's or early 90's. It does everything I need to do including getting prices for Canadian mutual funds. I'd like to use Linux (currently RH Valhalla 7.3) for my personal accounting. I'm not in a heated rush to switch to Linux but if there is a rock-solid app that I can use I'd be willing to run dual finance apps until I am confident with the Linux app. I am even willing to use a web app for finances if there is such a (solid and reliable) thing.
