Sendmail question

I have a user ("username") which has some mail in /var/share/mail/username (this is Solaris). The mail should have been forwarded, but for some reason has not been. Can the mail in the file above be somehow resent (re-received?) by sendmail or some process now that the user has configured /export/home/username/.forward?

Fwd: Samples of red text on black background

This is off-topic, but has anyone seen this sort of thing in Windows 10? Red and purple text on a dark or black background renders poorly, but other colours look clearly defined. The MS Code sample has a lighter gray background, so isn't affected...? Kevin

A reminder that the MUUG meeting will be this evening, both in person and online... The Manitoba UNIX User Group (MUUG) will be holding its next monthly meeting IN PERSON, on Tuesday, April 4th, at 7:30pm. Yes, that's a week early, i.e. the FIRST Tuesday of the month... Steam Decks and Steam Desks Join us this month for a foray into Linux gaming, presented by Chris Audet. We'll discuss Valve's Steam Deck, and similar handheld computers. We'll also cover some notable gaming Linux distros, such as Lakka, and ChimeraOS. RTFM: termdown - turn your terminal into a countdown timer (or stopwatch)! For this month's RTFM, Brad Vokey will give us a quick demonstration of some of the features of termdown, a python countdown timer for the terminal which he has used in the past to count down the MUUG virtual meeting breaks. Where to find the Meeting: Fortress Software Inc., 350 Keewatin St -- Unit #2 We have a new in-person meeting location now! Brad Vokey has graciously let us use his work office for our next in-person meeting. The meeting room will be open by 7:00 pm, with the actual meeting starting at 7:30 pm. If driving, enter the lot using the most north east entrance and drive around to the south west corner of the building (see route in map detail on poster linked below). You can use any of the free, amble, and safe parking spots that say "reserved" in front of units #1 through #4 before entering unit #2. Bus stops #30814 and #30880 (route 77) are only 150 meters away. The last bus leaves for Polo Park at 10:15 pm and for Garden City at 10:31 pm. Logan Ave. bus routes #19, #26, and #27 are a 600 meter (8 minute) walk to the south. For those unable or preferring not to attend in person, the meeting will also be available online, using BBB as usual. *nix in action at the Skullspace Hax Festival March 31-April 2nd

Hey Folks, I'm organizing a festival at Skullspace (374 Donald) next weekend, Friday March 31 through Sunday April 2nd. https://hax.skullspace.ca Includes: * A movie night on Friday night * General interest talks from 9:30am to 3pm Saturday * Information security talks, 3pm-6pm Saturday * An early Saturday night party (6pm-10pm) (tickets required) * A music open mic and jam 11am-3pm Sunday * Electronics market and auction 3:30pm-5pm Aside from the Saturday night party these are free events. Directly relevant to MUUG members, one of our Saturday talks will specifically feature a *nix systems in action: At 10am James Paskaruk will present on the Zynthian Open Synth Platform which is a many featured synthesizer platform that runs on a Rapsberry Pi. This talk will be delivered remotely and we will make the video conference link available on our website for folks unable to make it in person. ---- We're branding the 3pm-6pm cyber security talks as Skullspace Security CSides, kind of a light weight BSides. For this we've already got 3 talks, including my *nix adjacent talk about PGP smart cards. (I may make a MUUG presentation of that subject matter some day) I know it's now very short notice ask, but I could still use an infosec talk or two at 4:30pm or 5pm. I have had more time to look around a bit, and see that what I'am looking for is classed as a "No/Low Code App Development" platform. Companies of course wish customers to use and implement new apps as cloud based apps, but some will support self-hosted instances of their platforms. Some commercial and open source examples include but not limited to, are: Retool Openblocks Joget ToolJet appsmith A recurring theme is the platform distribution and self hosting via Docker instances rather than a traditional software installation or Build process onto the native OS. Further comments welcome on No/Low Code App development platforms and the use of Docker for DEV and PROD self-hosted installations. Rapid prototyping of multi-user database for LAN/Server environment

I am looking for a software platform for prototyping a multi-user database, hosted in a LAN/Server network. The primary focus is on rapid prototyping of the databases, forms, screens, reports, etc. over scalable and production grade software platform suite (ie. LAMP) A little looking around, and I found the similar LibreOffice BASE and HyperSQL (www.hsqldb.org) Any suggestions, recommendations? Thank you in advance for the help. Regards Brock

EAC equivalent for Linux - found! (more or less)

I, and I know a few of you, have long been looking for an equivalent tool under Linux to Windows’ Exact Audio Copy. I just stumbled upon a new (to me) possible contender: Whipper. Source at: GitHub - whipper-team/whipper: Python CD-DA ripper preferring accuracy over speed<https://github.com/whipper-team/whipper> Binaries appear to mostly be in your distro’s repos? Or so the github page reports, at least. It does use the new-ish libcdparanoia to do the ripping, under the hood – it seems that product has matured and more or less reached parity with EAC. I have not tried this yet, so I can’t vouch for its quality relative to EAC, but it’s apparently popular enough that MusicBrainz’ Picard has specific support for its logfiles. For proprietary-Darwin fans, the equivalent there now appears to be X Lossless Decoder: Lossless audio decoder for Mac OS X (undo.jp)<https://tmkk.undo.jp/xld/index_e.html>. YMMV. -Adam

Unix at 25

What? Don't you mean 52? (Or actually almost 54 by now?) So, back in 1994, Peter H. Salus wrote a book "A Quarter Century of Unix", and then an article with the title "Unix at 25" for the October 1994 issue of Byte Magazine. At the in-person MUUG meeting last week, one of the give-aways was a print edition of that issue of Byte. HDMI extenders

Here's another question I was going to ask at the meeting but forgot about. It's not UNIX/Linux-related but I was hoping for some input. Does anyone have experience with HDMI-over-Ethernet extenders? Do they work? Do the less-expensive ones work? :-) Should I just get a really long HDMI cable? What's the upper length limit for HDMI cables (1080p)? It would be under 50 ft.
