How does on get the date function to work in Libre Office spreadsheet?

Hi, I've formatted the cells as date mm/dd/yy and entered the values as is. Also tried by preceeding with equal sign in case deemed to be a formula but neither works. I assume a difference between two days yields the difference in days, correct? Or are the formula different than plain math? Eduard the Osborne guy at last meeting

Noisy fan

I have a noisy CPU fan. Does anyone know where I can get a reasonably priced replacement? It makes an annoying whine when above idle speed. See pic below if I can attach it. 3-pin motherboard connection. Thanks!

Hey would anyone like to venture an opinion? :-) Would this card: GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER GAMING X 6GB PCI-E w/ HDMI, Triple DP <https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX79541> (PCIe 3.0) likely work with this motherboard? ASUS M4A88T-M <https://origin-www.asus.com/Motherboards/M4A88TM/specifications/> (PCIe 2.0) I'm looking for a solution to bump up the graphics on this PC for temporary use (i.e. next year or so).

Windows activation on Linux VM host?

Is it possible to run a virtual Windows (10) on a Linux host running something like virtualbox? It has to be normal Win 10 Home or Pro though, no corporate licensing. I ask because I'm unsure how Windows activation (cursed be!) handles that situation. I'd like to be able to run the same host image on 2 different boxes (but not at the same time) and not have it moan about activation. So I guess the question is more this: does the VM hide/abstract the hardware enough from Windows to have it think it hasn't changed boxes? (The idea is a portable drive with the VM on it would travel between 2 locations which are never used simultaneously. Each location would have an identical Linux box. Don't ask why; suffice it to say that speed is paramount and cloud or net access or remote access won't cut it. Lugging the entire box is not an option. Laptop is a very sub-par option.) Thanks!

on-premise google analytics clone(ish)?

For web traffic stats/graphing, back in the day we all ran webalizer, and it's still ok. Now many/most sites insert the little google analytics javascript code link and get their stats there. But google is evil, so.... Does anyone have any on-box (preferably FLOSS, but for-pay is an option here too) web traffic stats/graphing tool they can personally recommend? (Cloud need not apply.) Does anyone know if any have js tie-in features like GA in order to get the more juicy stats? One would think it wouldn't be terribly difficult. Thanks!

PHP8 (not)killing short tags

I asked about this at a previous meeting... Just thought I'd offer a follow-up. Many months ago PHP devs had decided to deprecate then remove support for short tags <? like this ?>, forcing everyone to use the long <?php ?>. It was listed in a few "what's new in PHP 8" articles on the net. Looks like PHP devs had a change of heart after saner minds provided saner thoughts. The confusion comes from there being 2 RFCs on the matter: https://wiki.php.net/rfc/deprecate_php_short_tags https://wiki.php.net/rfc/deprecate_php_short_tags_v2 The "big guys" in php provided counterarguments: https://wiki.php.net/rfc/counterargument/deprecate_php_short_tags The first RFC vote passed, the 2nd one failed. I see no third one, and can't find any further mention on the matter, so I'm assuming it's now a dead issue and we'll have <? ?> tags forever more. To make things more confusing, I'm pretty sure 7.4 did sneak in deprecation according to v1 of the RFC, requiring disabling deprecation notices or changing all short tags. But this change was subsequently backed out. (Can anyone clarify?) Of course, I won't know for sure how this works in PHP8 until I upgrade to Fedora 33 and its PHP8...
