Out of curiosity, has anyone tried their downloadable material? They've got shortcuts which are 40-60 focused documents, and roughcuts which are prereleases of the book. A couple of the shortcuts look interesting. Do a Google of Red River College Continuing Education choose Explore RRC Continuing Education choose Part-time Programs scroll down to Systems Integration choose Courses and Descriptions Linux Client E22C156 Linux Server E22C160 Both night couses are two nights a week for about two months and cost about $400 at the Princes Street campus. RRC courses are usually challenging. Both are aimed for CompTIA. If your lucky, Mr Krywy will be the instructor. He's excellent and is a great Linux fan.

I'm not sure, I don't have any info on them, but may also check out Computer Boulevard's Linux course, supposed to teach Comptia's Linux+ exam. Somebody else coment on this? MUUG Meeting, Feb 13, 7:30pm -- Syslog to a Database

The Manitoba UNIX User Group (MUUG) will be holding its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 13. The meeting topic for this month is as follows: Syslog to a Database Kevin McGregor had a common problem: He could generate lots of interesting system logging data and direct it to a common logging system to be recorded, but he wanted to perform more sophisticated analysis than could be done with text files and grep. Also, managing log rotations and old data was a concern, as was automatic report generation for management. This month, Kevin will explain how he put together the combination of syslog-ng and PostgreSQL to solve this problem. The group holds its general meetings at 7:30pm on the second Tuesday of every month from September to June. (There are no meetings in July and August.) Meetings are open to the general public; you don't have to be a MUUG member to attend. ********************************************************************** Please note our meeting location: The IBM offices, at 400 Ellice Ave. (between Edmonton and Kennedy). When you arrive, you will have to sign in at the reception desk, and then wait for someone to take you (in groups) to the meeting room. Please try to arrive by about 7:15pm, so the meeting can start promptly at 7:30pm. Don't be late, or you may not get in. (But don't come too early either, since security may not be there to let you in before 7:15 or so.) Non-members may be required to show photo ID at the security desk. Limited parking is available for free on the street, either on Ellice Ave. or on some of the intersecting streets. Indoor parking is also available nearby, at Portage Place, for $3.00 for the evening. Scripting question

I have this script: #!/bin/bash if [ -e /var/run/pgsql.pipe ]; then while [ -e /var/run/pgsql.pipe ] do psql -q -h padsysdb -U sysloguser syslog </var/run/pgsql.pipe done fi ...running on a Ubuntu Linux server. It's clearly very simple; it just keeps checking the named pipe /var/run/pgsql.pipe and sending the contents to the psql command, which interprets the input as a SQL command and executes it accordingly. My question is, given that I want this loop to execute (a) from server startup (b) indefinitely and without interruption, how do I reasonably ensure (a) and (b)? More specifically, where do I stick this (or an equivalent) in the startup scripts on Ubuntu, and is there a good automated way to make sure it keeps going? I really don't want to lose any of my database input. It's a fairly critical system, and I'd like to make this pretty robust. Kevin
