Core 5 DMA errors

I'm getting weird DMA errors on my Fedora Core 5 computer. The motherboard is an ASRock P4VM800 with 512MB DDR Celeron 2533 MHz Model 4 hard drive is a Hitachi 7K80 7200 rpm parallel-ATA 80 Gig. Thanks very much for the help. I read the article and checked the IDE cables as instructed, and found a loose connection. I've booted Fedora a couple times with no error messages showing, so maybe it was the loose IDE cable connection. I hope so because I can't remember where I bought the hard drive and I can't find any sales slips for it. Bad Moon is Rising. Yuk! That was the first tune I had to learn on guitar over 30 years ago and I still can't listen to it without cringing. Yuk.

OpenWrt problem with tftp

I believe that I'm having a problem with the OpenWRT and tftp. I'm trying to fetch a file outside of the OpenWRT firewall using tftp but on the server side I see these messages: in.tftpd[26104]: tftpd: read(ack): Connection refused The client just times out. I suspect its a nat issue with the OpenWRT perhaps related to the fact the OpenWRT listens on a tftp port for uploads of firmware? Or is tftp generally tricky through nat? Fedora virtual screen

Well, I can get a mild version of a virtual screen on my Fedora system on the GUI with Ctrl Alt - That's a minus sign after the Alt. The software screen is larger than the area of the monitor's screen and you can view the areas outside of the monitor screen by using the mouse. On the old Slackware distributions you could get a software virtual screen about 50 % larger than the monitor's screen. Binding device names to MAC addresses

Further to the discussion about binding ethernet devices to specific ethernet cards... I appear to have been mistaken - I cannot find any consistent way to tell the kernel to attach "eth0" to, say the device "02:01.0" (which in my system is: Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82540EM Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 02)"). If you use hotpluggable devices (e.g. USB ethernet adapters) then there may be a way but that's through the hotplug scripts, not through the kernel. However, the … [View More]
