At a recent MUUG meeting someone was asking about burning VCDs (Video
CDs). I believe the consensus at the meeting was that burning under
Linux was comprised of a hodge-podge of various command line tools for
converting video formats and burning making it quite difficult at best.
I recently stumbled on the following software:
http://www.k3b.org/
which seems to bring everything under one roof and claims to do CD, VCD,
and DVD burning all in one application (it does not appear to be just a
GUI …
[View More]front end to command line tools).
However, I do not currently have a burner to test it with so I was
hoping someone from the group could give it a whirl and report back on
success?
Thanks.

I must have had too much 'egg-nog' when
last I tried to install Kquitar, because today,
December 23, it installed with no trouble
after I made the soft link:
/usr/lib/ln -s qt-2.3.0 qt2
Thanks for all the help.
Thanks for all the help but I've given up on
Kguitar for now.
Kguitar didn't like /configure with-qt-dir=/usr/lib/qt-2.3.0
or a variety of other attempts like the above.
So I made a soft link for qt. Kquitar then found some
other problem to complain about.
I gave up on the .tar.gz and got the .rpm.
It didn't install either. Some library was missing.
I'll send them a detailed error report.
But I've learned some stuff, thanks to you guys,
so it wasn't a waste.
Thanks again.
Could someone advise me on a good
power line filter to filter out electical spikes?
A couple weeks back the electric motor
on my furnace fan died. Since then, whenever
the furnace fan starts, there's some disturbance
on the computer monitor screen. I'm not sure
how serious this is, but I'd like to put a stop
to it. I've got a cheap Magnavox ($35) surge
protector with a 15 amp circuit breaker, but its
obviously not doing anything for this problem.
First thing in January ( when I've got the …

I'll have someone qualified take a good look
at that furnace fan.

I was wondering if anyone knew a way around this
installation problem that happened during ./configure.
I was trying to install an application called Kguitar
in /usr/local/Kguitar-0.4
The installation can not find the necessary QT files
even though my system does have them. Kguitar
looks for these files in a series of directories, but
none of these directories is correct.
My QT is in:
/usr/lib/qt-2.3.0/include
All the QT files that Kguitar says are missing
are in this directory.
How do I …
[View More]get Kguitar to find the necessary QT files
to install?
Should I move all the QT files into one of the
directories Kguitar is searching?
Or is there a way to point Kguitar towards the
correct directory?
I send in bug-report a couple weeks ago, go a reply
saying this was 'strange' but otherwise no answer.
I can't blame them. It's free software and I'm sure
they all have jobs and families to tend too, especially
so near Christmas.
And Happy Christmass to you all!
Here are some details:

Recently I have been getting an error message "Error 502, Illegal Port

on cause of problem and/or fix. I have connected many times successfully in
the past.

I'm forwarding this just FYI, since it seems like a worthwhile project...
