Has anyone out there managed to get Red Hat 8.0 or 7.3 to recognize a USB scanner? The Epson 1250 is suppose to work with Sane 1.0.9. Red Hat 7.3 uses Sane 1.0.7 but it proved impossible to remove 1.0.7 to the satisfaction of 1.0.9. I used the Package uninstaller and then zapped files using the command line and somehow, there's still 1.0.7 files out there somewhere. So I installed Red Hat 8.0 on an empty partition. Xsane failed to find the sanner. I edited /etc/sane.d/epson.conf to recognize /dev/usb/sanner0 but it didn't help. The Epson 1250 is an old scanner. I'm rather disappointed that, even now I can't use it with Linux.
