Anyone tried downloading any distributions (or other things) using BitTorrent through Shaw? Apparently they're using Ellacoya shapers to throttle back the bandwidth. A coworker just got off the phone with their support who confirmed it.

There was a story (I think it was on Slashdot) about six months to a year ago about how they were doing this in Vancouver. A few people in wpg.general were saying how this was another reason to switch to MTS. A couple of Shaw people said they weren't going to be doing it here.
So much about "just supplying a connection to the net". Now "they" are trying to censor legal activity...

I've heard this on quite a few sites as well. I get INSANE speeds on shaw extreme, however I've got bittorrent running on some alternate ports (60000+ range). I've seen over 800k/s on a torrent on multipul occasions.
