How does on get the date function to work in Libre Office spreadsheet?

Hi, I've formatted the cells as date mm/dd/yy and entered the values as is. Also tried by preceeding with equal sign in case deemed to be a formula but neither works. I assume a difference between two days yields the difference in days, correct? Or are the formula different than plain math? Eduard the Osborne guy at last meeting

BBS list - neat!

Look what I stumbled on... http://bbslist.textfiles.com/204/ Cool. A walk down memory lane. Unfortunately this seems to be mainly focussed on the 90's, and most of my BBSing was in the late 80's. However, they do list a few I recognize/used: Ariel Cobalt's Ursa Minor Atari ST User Group But they miss most of my old favorites, including the one that changed my life forever... And, look closely at some of the names: we find Les (of .net) and our own Adam Thompson. Makes me want to dig up my old Atari ST file archives and see if I still have all my faves saved in my terminal software... but I can't seem to find the file, so it might be on tape... and I recently discontinued my SCSI setup. Well, time to haul out the Adaptec 19160 and DAT :-) Looks like if I can find the info I could submit the data! Ah, BBSs, those were the days...

email-receive blacklist?

So there are tons of "email-sending" blacklists out there. Are there "email-receiving" blacklists? Is that a thing? We're trying to get emails from Hilton Honors to our @tecnopolis.ca email address(es) and they just refuse to send to us. Even on the phone with support to triple confirm the email address it refuses to send to us. When I say refuses to send to us, I mean it won't even connect to port 25 on our server. Just nothing, nada. It's not a greylisting or RBL problem on our side because it's not even opening a socket. I can tell, I have full access to the verbose mail logs and tcpdump. All other vendors seem to have no trouble sending to us. Just Hilton. The big email providers like gmail send to us perfectly fine. I've never seen anything like this. Now, I do have trouble sometimes with Akamai's *web* hit blacklist, though I'm mostly "good" with them now. People don't use Akamai *web* RBLs for outgoing mail servers, do they? Is that a thing? I don't see that as an Akamai product offering...

run windows tax software in Linux!

Maybe not in time for many people (assuming on-time filing), but perhaps useful for the future: After much messing around, I got StudioTax personal tax software to run on Linux using Wine! Better, yet, I also got it running in Wine in firejail to keep the Windows software jailed up unable to misbehave. StudioTax is 100% free (as in beer, but not as in FLOSS) Canadian personal (and sm.bus sole prop. non-T2 business) tax software (donation-ware). Brad & I have been using them for years, ever since CoolTax stopped. If you're half decent at accounting and taxes, forget for-pay QuickTax/TurboTax! It's a bit trickier than most other Windows software on Wine because it requires .NET 4.5 and .NET needs quite a few tricks to work in Wine and firejail (ugh). I'm having lots of fun with wine/dosbox (and firejail!) lately and I've *nearly* gotten to the point where I do not require a Windbloze box anymore. Just an ancient Quickbooks (should be easy) and EAC (maybe not so much) to go and I may just turn my Windbloze box off for good! -- Trevor - taking MUUGers' I-use-Windows-as-my-desktop excuses away, 1 exe at a time

muug paypal urls reset

Due to a bug in how paypal links contained in the renewal notices were generated, we have had to update the system a bit. This invalidates all existing paypal links you may have received prior to today. Links in subsequent (post-Apr20) renewal emails will be valid. If you want to use paypal to renew, you can request a new link to be issued to you immediately by emailing: membership(a)muug.ca The bug caused a very small number of users (about a 1 in 256) to see an error page when they tried to use their link. If you encountered this problem, we apologize for the inconvenience.
