GnuCash revisited

I did cause quite a GnuCash discussion here in Mar 2017, but this time I have one simple question. Since it is difficult to quickly create a large GnuCash test data file, does anyone here know about GnuCash performance on a "large" file of about 20,000 transactions? Specifically: 1. How long do the load/open and save/close operations take? 2. How smooth or snappy are various navigations, scrolling/paging up/down, searching, filtering, etc.? 3. Are there any dangers of data loss due to possible GnuCash "comfortable size" limits? Hartmut W Sager - Tel +1-204-339-8331

Certification guidance

Hello, I'm a newer member to MUUG, I attended my first meeting in March. I left that meeting with a lot to think about but excited by the talk and discussions I witnessed. (I keep typing out a big long story about my desire to learn more about UNIX, and more specifically Linux, but it gets long and I delete it. This email has been in my draft folder for a few days now, I'm getting to the point.) Anyway, I'd like to work towards some level of certification. There seem to be a few "Big Certs" out there, Red Hat's, LPI's and the Linux Foundation's. For the moment I've decided to work towards the LPIC-1 due to the cost and apparent credibility. I have a book and am starting my free trial on Pluralsight to kickstart my learning. My question is perhaps just more me seeking confirmation that I've jumped to some decent conclusions. LPI is Canadian-based and usually #2 on the best-lists I've found. I'm loving the book, The Linux Command LIne, 2nd ed, but haven't used Pluralsight before. I landed on it mostly because its ads annoy me the least out of all of the online learning sources. KVM error

Trying to run device emulator in Android Studio on kde neon based on 18.04 ubuntu. Getting this error: KVM is required to run this AVD. /dev/kvm is not found. Enable VT-x in your BIOS security settings, ensure that your Linux distro has working KVM module. Do I want to enable this in BIOS or just create this directory? Any insights into this? Thank you,Frank

Further to last night's RTFM: Solaris 10's 'xargs' does *not* appear to support -P: xargs: Usage: xargs: [-t] [-p] [-e[eofstr]] [-E eofstr] [-I replstr] [-i[replstr]] [-L #] [-l[#]] [-n # [-x]] [-s size] [cmd [args ...]] On the bright side (crossing my fingers), we won't be supporting the Solaris 10 boxes much longer. Well, maybe only one of them, but it shouldn't need much attention. After this summer we'll need to support just one app/DB pair of zones.

Manitoba Internet Exchange AGM

Hi, This may be of interest to Muug members who support data networks. The Manitoba Internet Exchange is having it's AGM on April 25, 2019. It will be from 2:30 to 5:30pm at the King's Head Pub. The AGM will start at 3:30. It is a good opportunity to meet others involved in the support of data networking in Manitoba. -- Bill

The Manitoba UNIX User Group (MUUG) will be holding its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 9. The meeting topic for this month is as follows: WINE Kevin McGregor will cover the state of the WINE project, software which enables you to run Windows software unaltered on Linux-based systems. RTFM: xargs(1) Redux^2 Adam Thompson will once again turn his attention to xargs(1), and demonstrate scripting techniques that allow parallel processing using nothing but standard UNIX tools. The group holds its meetings at 7:30pm on the second Tuesday of every month from September to June. (There are no meetings in July and August.)
