security implications of "what's your rock-star name"-type quizzes

These have been around for ages in magazines, but there seem to be even more of them recently on Facebook (sometimes posted from a third-party site). Some of the suggestions/questions are harmless, but I've noticed there are a few floating around like: "for your rock star first name, use the name of your first pet", or "your mother's maiden name". As in, on this public forum under your full name, please post what you use as an answer for security questions for your bank, email, etc. Even if the 3rd-party site isn't involved, you can bet someone else is scraping that data. MUUG Meeting, Oct 13, 7:30pm -- Process Accounting and Log File Management

The Manitoba UNIX User Group (MUUG) will be holding its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 13. The meeting topic for this month is as follows: Process Accounting and Log File Management This month, Adam Thompson and Wyatt Zacharias will be co-presenting. Adam will be talking about UNIX process accounting, focusing on the lastcomm(1) and sa(8) commands. Wyatt will then talk about managing logs using cronolog(1). RTFM In the RTFM segment this month, Rob Keizer will be showing us Homebrew (brew(1)). Homebrew is the easiest and most flexible way to install the UNIX tools that Apple didn't include with OS X. Door Prize This month we will be giving away (among our other usual prizes) two tickets to Bsides Winnipeg 2015. Security BSides is a global, non-profit organization that exists to facilitate the creation of local information security conferences. These conferences are ideally organized by locals, and feature local presenters. Unlike other conferences, BSides events are low-cost, relaxed, and inclusive, and attempt to encourage interaction amongst organizers, speakers, and attendees. BSides Winnipeg 2015 will take place on November 14th & 15th, 2015 at The King's Head Pub from Noon to 7pm. Cost is $20 and comes with a meal each day. The group holds its general meetings at 7:30pm on the second Tuesday of every month from September to June. (There are no meetings in July and August.) Meetings are open to the general public; you don't have to be a MUUG member to attend. ****************************************************************** Please note our *NEW* meeting location for this month: *Room 1M28* Manitoba Hall, University of Winnipeg, entrance on Ellice Ave. between Spence St. and Balmoral St. Parking is available on the surrounding streets and in the lots on nearby streets. Ringing voltage and waveform in Cisco/Linksys ATA's

Why do these Cisco/Linksys ATA's have some stupid defaults? I just played with (er, configured) another one over the last weekend. I always (have to) change the default ringing voltage in these Cisco/Linksys ATA's from 85V trapezoidal to 90V sinusoidal, so that an attached phone will ring reliably. I don't know for which part of the planet (if any) their default is intended. From the standards I've studied in the past, the trapezoidal waveform especially doesn't ring a Bell.
