I've been thinking of something which may make my job as a writer a little easier. The end result is I'd like to bring up Open Office/ Libre Office and dictate what I want into a microphone. This way I can concentrate more on the information and less on the typos. There is some system software which will do this for the Mac (I'd prefer something for Linux) and there are some problems. Solaris backup

I've been asked to find a way to backup a Solaris SPARC machine. The request was: Suppose you have a fresh install of Solaris, and you want to back it up completely such that if you got a brand new machine you would be able to "just restore" this backup image of Solaris to a new hard drive and boot the new machine without having to re-install Solaris. How would you go about doing this?

dd(1). And that would also need a boot cd, which is non-trivial under Solaris on SPARC. AFAIK there's no really good way to do what you want with that HW/SW combination. It has been over 10 years since I cared to know but does anyone on this list have any experience with or know what DSL services are required to get a static IP (and a dynamic as well) from our friends at MTS (and I don't want to entertain a dyn-dns option, less knobs means less to break)? The only hard-wired broadband available in a particular area of Manitoba is MTS DSL so it's not like I have a choice. :P As well, with the new service... can you refuse their router to get a plain simple … [View More]

Does anyone know if/where I can get a AMD AM2 CPU such as a Athlon X2 5800+? The AM3 CPUs are socket-compatible, but I'm not confident about the BIOS support. Any thoughts?
