I imagine that there are much more Mac knowledgable people around then myself... Kevin

Remote connections to Macintoshes

I'm tired of doing phone support. I'd like to connect remotely from one of my Linux/Windows/Macintosh computers, through my Linksys router, through Shaw's network, through MTS's network, to various relative's Macintoshes. Has anyone tried any remote connection software that will work through all of those layers?

looking for a gadget

Good Evening Folks: Looking for a device like the following: <http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=AP7900> except only a single plug, and with a 2nd network port that does passthru like a wired voip phone. I love these power bars, but they're too large to fit into one of those 8x10 NEMA enclosures. Anyone ever even heard of such a beast? Theo

OT? Promise RIAD controller issue

Good day. Wondering if anyone here has any working knowledge of Promise RAID controllers? Have an issue with my Gentoo box, and thinking that I should rebuild the array. Have mirrored 250 GB drives. The primary seems all good, but the second drive is missing a partition and ALL data by the looks of it. Looking at the options in the card BIOS, I see drive 1 with 0 bytes capacity, and drive 3 with 232 GB capacity. Am I correct in assuming this is just to keep you from writing stuff to the primary drive? If so, then I simply want to go ahead and rebuild the array mirroring drive 0 to 3, no? Just though I should ask rather than guess. Wouldn't want my guess to wipe it all out, and have to start from scratch.... :/ Thanks in advance.... :)

rsync with multi-direction delete.

Hello, I've started working with rsync and I'm close to getting things the way I want it, but I need a bit of help from an expert to finish the project. I'm rsyncing from a directory on a server to a usb mass-storage device attached to a different computer. I'm running an rsync daemon on the server and I'm able to successfully synchronize the contents of a directory on the server to a directory on the usb device. What I want: when I delete a file or directory on either place it will remove it from the other. What it does now: If I delete a directory or file from the server it removes it from the USB device (ya!) but if I remove a file/directory from the USB device and perform an rsync it replaces the deleted file/directory. Here is the rsync command I'm using: rsync --delete --delete-excluded --recursive -uv quiringm@192.168.1.102:/mnt/hdd/music/podcasts/ /Volumes/MEK/Podcasts/ Thanks in advance for your help, -Montana

MUUG Meeting, Oct 9, 7:30pm -- GnuCash

The Manitoba UNIX User Group (MUUG) will be holding its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 9. The meeting topic for this month is as follows: GnuCash GnuCash is a free software accounting program for personal and small business use. It runs on multiple UNIX-like platforms. The presentation will cover some of GnuCash's features and also double as a fast introduction to bookkeeping. Potentially covered: account types, double-entry accounting, reports, invoices, bills, employee expenses, scheduled transactions, loan calculations, and demystifying "debit" and "credit." The presenter, Mark Jenkins, is a recent graduate of the Computer Science Honours program at the University of Manitoba. Mark has contributed a very small bug-fix patch to GnuCash but expects to contribute more in the next year; his employer, ParIT Worker Co-operative, recently received a grant that will fund additional development. The group holds its general meetings at 7:30pm on the second Tuesday of every month from September to June. (There are no meetings in July and August.) Meetings are open to the general public; you don't have to be a MUUG member to attend. ********************************************************************** Please note our meeting location: The IBM offices, at 400 Ellice Ave. (between Edmonton and Kennedy). When you arrive, you will have to sign in at the reception desk, and then wait for someone to take you (in groups) to the meeting room. Please try to arrive by about 7:15pm, so the meeting can start promptly at 7:30pm. Don't be late, or you may not get in. (But don't come too early either, since security may not be there to let you in before 7:15 or so.) Non-members may be required to show photo ID at the security desk. Limited parking is available for free on the street, either on Ellice Ave. or on some of the intersecting streets. Indoor parking is also available nearby, at Portage Place, for $3.00 for the evening.
