CD, VCD & DVD Burning

At a recent MUUG meeting someone was asking about burning VCDs (Video CDs). I believe the consensus at the meeting was that burning under Linux was comprised of a hodge-podge of various command line tools for converting video formats and burning making it quite difficult at best. I recently stumbled on the following software: http://www.k3b.org/ which seems to bring everything under one roof and claims to do CD, VCD, and DVD burning all in one application (it does not appear to be just a GUI front end to command line tools). However, I do not currently have a burner to test it with so I was hoping someone from the group could give it a whirl and report back on success? LCD tips tricks and traps

The following info came from TLUG I didn't do the math but I think I understand what is being said. Are the native resolutions determined by the factory (hardware) or can software settings manipulate native resolutions? LCD Monitors

This is a two part question. Help on either or both will be appreciated. I have a ViewSonic P 801 (non LCD 21" monster, weights lots). For the past week or so the screen blooms (not all content shows on screen some of the graphics are off the edges and it Is so dim you can harley read it. The Monitors input box is very very blurry. Explaining his to a Viewsonic help desk guy he said I have a monitor issue and it's probably not worth fixing. I'd like to get a LCD I was at future shop and saw several there the one that caught my eye was a 19" Sony. I use Linux. XP and Red Hat 9

Can anyone give me some pointers as to how to get XP and Red Hat 9 ( or any other distribution of Linux ) to co-exist on the same system in the same hard drive? I've downloaded the Linux and Windows HOWTO, but it doesn't seem to cover XP. The only windoze I've got experience with is 95/98. They were no problem, but I think I need more information before trying an XP Linux mix. I want to use GRUB for booting. The motherboard is an ASUS NVIDIA A7N8X. Athlon 2500 one Gig ram. 80 Gig HD Any information would be very welcome. I don't want to make a mess of this.

Detillieux) The Manitoba UNIX User Group (MUUG) will be holding its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 10. The meeting topic for this month is as follows: Linux Clusters The ability to cluster servers is one of the biggest steps toward acceptance of Linux in mission-critical applications. There are multiple clustering products available, and Red Hat now bundles two different types with their Enterprise server product. Clustering can increase both the reliability and the scalability of many different types of applications. Adam Thompson will be our presenter for this month. Three types of clustering will be discussed (Failover, LVS & Beowulf) and some typical examples of each will be presented. The group holds its general meetings at 7:30 PM on the second Tuesday of every month from September to June. (There are no meetings in July and August.) Meetings are open to the general public; you don't have to be a MUUG member to attend. ********************************************************************** Please note our new meeting location: The IBM offices, at 400 Ellice Ave. (between Edmonton and Kennedy). When you arrive, you will have to sign in at the reception desk, and then wait for someone to take you (in groups) to the meeting room. Strange behaviour of hard drive

Just bought a couple of WDC SE hard drives and running them in a software RAID 1 configuration. One drive is often not recognised at boot up. It does not happen all the time but occassionally on reset. After not being recongnised it requires a power cycle to get it back. It does not matter whether it is on the primary or secondary IDE. Has anyone seen this behaviour. Thanks, Bill
