CD, VCD & DVD Burning

At a recent MUUG meeting someone was asking about burning VCDs (Video CDs). I believe the consensus at the meeting was that burning under Linux was comprised of a hodge-podge of various command line tools for converting video formats and burning making it quite difficult at best. I recently stumbled on the following software: http://www.k3b.org/ which seems to bring everything under one roof and claims to do CD, VCD, and DVD burning all in one application (it does not appear to be just a GUI front end to command line tools). However, I do not currently have a burner to test it with so I was hoping someone from the group could give it a whirl and report back on success? ReiserFS

I am looking at using ReiserFS on a RedHat Linux 7.3 installation as a data drive. Can anyone give me some info on the stability of this fs? Opinions on whether it is better/as good as ext3? Thanks. Writing backups to Pioneer DVR-A04 DVD-RW writer.

Hello all, Here's one I can't figure out. Downloaded cdrtools-1.11.dvd.tar.gz, and compiled. Nice and clean worked like a champ. Wrote about 70 megs to the drive. Worked great. Here's the rub. I've got a 4.7 gig RW disk in the drive, and I'm trying to write 2.7 gigs or so of data. My output's below. Am I doing something wrong here? It says the data won't fit on the disk. Huh? Is there anything funny about the files in question? Do you have permissions on them? Are they regular files or special devices? Well after more digging found that the files not included in tar archive were tied to hard links. After cloning a hard disk I discovvered missing files on the target hard drive. After looking around it seems that tar did not include files from multiple locations on the source hard drive. In a specific case it failed to include 6 files from the /sbin directory. The tar command used (login as root) on the source disk ( RH 7.1, ext2 ) was : tar cvplf /var/tmp/root.tar / Repeating this exercise on a (RH 6.2 ext2) box did not duplicate the problem of missing 6 files. Repeating the following command on the orginal source disk (RH7.1 ext2) reproduced the problem of missing 6 files.. tar cvplf /var/tmp/sbin.tar /sbin I would just move these 6 files over by other means but there are too many files in other partitions missing to make this practical. Any ideas on the source of the problem? hi gurus, looking at a unix system, x display. is it possible to takeover control of the mouse cursor on a system level? ie. instead of having to move the mouse to move the cursor, is it possible write a program which moves the cursor automatically ? and that movement is not restricted to having the cursor inside its own window? i am sure there's got to be a low level function call to move the mouse in response to mouse-device movement. just not sure if it's accessable to programmer. any help is greately appreciated regards tien

Actually, grub itself doesn't need any of that, it simply passes it on to the Linux kernel. :) But the kernel would have needed that all along. I suspect it was getting it from someplace else before your 7.3 upgrade. Since you seemed to have an appropriate append statement in /etc/lilo.conf, I suspect you had been using LILO previously, and just switched to grub in this latest upgrade. Since grub is the default selection, it's easy to do that without even realising it. -- Gilbert E.
