Hi All!
Perhaps a silly question. If I am running Linux in Manitoba, and relying, as it is, on NTP and TZ packages to get time for whatever. Log timestamps. Storage being in sync with compute.
Does the decision to do away with winter time affect my systems?
If you have a system that still gets updates, there will be an rpm or deb or whatever (usually called tzdata or similar) that will get updated with your normal updates. You basically do nothing and it all just works. NTP won't have anything to do with it as it will tell you the UTC and your system applies the TZ offset on top of that. If you have a system that is out of support/updates, then you could probably back-port the tz file from that rpm into any old system -- as long as it's new enough to handle the format changes, which I'm sure are rare. Nice to hear from you again, we look forward to seeing you at a future meeting!
