[RndTbl] shell/term zealots, any ideas?

What should we be setting our TERM env var to in normal linux graphical 
(and non-graphical) environments?  So that it's always happy whether 
logging in at the console or via an xterm/gnoneterm on same box or via 
ssh?  I was using TERM=linux but that crashes tcsh now.
