Since the source for both RH7.3 and Advance Server are both open it
hardly seems possible that RedHat is jerking you around. As you know
tuning parameters are often a trade off and depend on the applications
that are running. It would appear that RedHat is producing a
distribution which is more conservative than their normal RH releases.

Your comments would certainly have more validity if applied to
proprietory software which is not open.

The problems you are having with Oracle is probably some library
incompatibility. It is a pain since you have to spend a lot of time
either searching the Web or trying different combinations of software
versions. Of course this is one of the issues that RedHat is addressing
in Advance Server. They will ship it with libraries that will owrk will
Oracle. They may not be the current libraries that ship with RH7.3. It
does not mean that the libraries shipped with RH7.3 are crippled. It
just means that something is broken either in the library or Oracle.

As a user who is interested in trying out the latest features I would
not be happy if RedHat crippled RH7.3 to support Oracle. :-)

ttyl,
Bill
