The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) today
announced that TELUS and Bell Aliant will no longer need to obtain its
approval to set local telephone rates or to introduce new services and
service packages in Fort McMurray, Alberta, and in parts of New Brunswick,
Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Some of the areas that qualified for
deregulation in the Maritimes are located in Fredericton, Charlottetown and
Halifax.
