The following is from Angus Telemanagement:
MTS REVENUE DOWN 6%: MTS Allstream reports third quarter revenue of $477.9
million, 5.9% less than a year ago. EBITDA edged up 1.1%; net income
dropped 10% to $40.5 million. Enterprise sales were unchanged from the
previous quarter. Revenue from local service declined 9.4%; from long
distance, 15.9%.

Local service is down 9.4% (it is unclear from above but I would guess
from one year ago). I do not recall seeing a big price reduction so it
would be fair to suggest that Shaw and others have eaten away close to 10%
market share in one year. I believe this makes sense when looking at
Shaw's reported voice subscriber increases.

I find it interesting that after the first year of MTS-TV a similar
percentage of TV subscribers went the other way. According to the
financial reports from both companies Shaw is doing much better and MTS is
doing worse despite cash cow cellular service. Rogers for the moment looks
like the darling telecom company with record cellular profits plus a ever
growing VoIP service.
