[*] Question about MTS Cold Loops

Does anyone happen to know what happens to MTS cold loops when you
discontinue phone service?

Specifically, what is connected at the MTS end?

What I would like to know is, would it be safe to power household wiring
with a Linksys device without going to the trouble of physically
disconnecting the MTS wiring at the wiring block?
