I have an old socket AM2/AM3 system which currently has an Athlon CPU in it that I'm looking to give a little extra life. Does anyone happen to have a spare Phenom II chip lying around that I could have/buy cheap?

That said, I tend to play with older hardware and even for me that's a little too old. What's your use for it?

That said, I tend to play with older hardware and even for me that's a little too old. What's your use for it?
Believe it or not my main workstation is still running a 6-core Phenom II, and it's just starting to show its age.
Don't go out of your way to get one for me, I have no immediate need for it, I just dug the board out of storage and figured I'd see if I can make it useful again.

Right now I wouldn't have a drop in replacement for this processor, but I have a X58 (I think) ATX Intel Motherboard with an i7-870. It's missing the heatsink+fan, so you would need one. Works fine otherwise.

I once replaced a AM2+ Sempron with no virtualization extensions with a AM2+ Athlon that did have virtualization extensions. Selling off the Sempron on ebay has been in my sell-off queue....

My main desktop is a 6-core Phenom II, too! Although I don’t use it much these days in favour of my 2-year-old Lenovo laptop. Sorry, no spare CPUs.
