I continue to recommend buying from www.dellrefurbished.ca (formerly dfsdirect.ca) and getting the extended warranty. I prefer to buy Latitude laptops, Optiplex desktops, or Precision anythings, because those business models tend to be much more durable, and docking stations are available (cheap!) for the laptops. Seconded. Purchased a few machines from them over the past N years (for N >= 6). I have an E6500 I adore but anxiously want to replace with a E6510 to get over a 4GB limit (damned VMs). They FREQUENTLY have really tempting sales (right now there is a sale, 28% off on all desktops code VALENTINE14, expires... well you can figure that out). Be VARY wary of C2D based machines as DDR2 is pricey...(especially SODIMMS). If you can max out the machine for cheap then go for it... otherwise save a bit longer for an i5 or the unicorn like C2Ds with DDR3. -- Sean P.S. I have only DDR2 based machines, so painful. Interesting: Computer Avenue has a refurb Dell Optiplex 380 SFF for $200... and it uses DDR3! I'm wondering if the IBM they have uses standard-enough components that I could just replace the MB/CPU/RAM. I'll have to get the model number and check. What exactly are you trying to do? I sent you an offer privately, but you ignored it. If you intend to replace the computers guts, then there's no point in getting that computer. You may as well assemble from parts. If you only want a case and power supply, I could provide that. And frankly Antec cases are a lot more attractive than either Dell or IBM. I work with all of them. You can't replace the motherboard in a Dell, it's non-standard. Has a little card for front panel functions, with a ribbon cable to the Mobo. At least the Optiplex GX270 and GX280; and they're different from each other. I believe the 380 does as well. Rob Dyck
