Does the U of M still have any big (old) tape drives? Just curious. I thought they were cool to watch when I was there...
Sounds like it might be time to put a "saved search (email)" on ebay!
not that i know of not sure how to find out.
what you mean by saved search on ebay??
trying to avoid 400$ shipping bill ups is kinda rough on the gear

Login to ebay. Type in your search & refine as desired, even if it finds nothing. Click the "save this search" button right there and tell it to email you. Sit back and wait for emails when the item shows up on ebay.
I'm surprised how many people don't know about ebay saved searches. They rock.

If you find one in Canada it may not be that bad. Or have it mailed to Pembina, ND.
interesting

Hi Trevor,
There are no reel drives left in the UofM IST machine room (not sure about storage or other faculties). Those drives may have even been gone pre-y2k as the mainframe stuff was all on some sort of stacking tape (dont know the format) for some years before that.
