I can't say anything about IDE controllers, haven't used them since the day when you needed an I/O card.
As for burners sucking power, I'm not so sure of that. For 8 months I ran a Duron 800 with 512 MEGs RAM, 82 GIG & 10 GIG IDE drives, Initio SCSI controller, two 2.1 GIG SCSI drives, SCSI Zip drive, SCSI Yamaha CDR, Umax SCSI scanner, 56x IDE CD-ROM, 18x Toshiba DVD drive, 1.44 floppy, ATi Rage Fury Pro 32 MEG with TV in and out, 2 10/100 PCI NIC's all off of a 250 WATT no name power supply in a mid-tower case. Drives slung everywhere I could. My case upgrade was due to heating problems, not poor power. There simply was no circulation in the mid-tower with all that stuff in there.....

Hi all. I have run out of ide sockets on my main board. I'm looking for recommendations... please, for an ide controller card for an elder P2 266 running Red Hat 7.2
I'm also wondering if it's time to upgrade the power supply from 250W to
300
or better. I have a CDRW to put in. I have no experience with burners
but I
understand they are heavy consumers of power.
Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks in advance. Ian. _______________________________________________ Roundtable mailing list Roundtable@muug.mb.ca http://www.muug.mb.ca/mailman/listinfo/roundtable
