I don't recall what we discussed in particular, but I ended up putting a test in .bash_profile or .bashrc to check if the SSH connection was coming from the ADDM server, and if so unset the HISTFILE variable. We only have the one ADDM server which does this, so it works adequately.

Ideally ADDM should have its own userid for this purpose, but I went with the stop-gap fix.
