Manitoba UNIX User Group
TL;DR: 3 Steps to Joining MUUG...
- Fill out the form,
- E-mail it to us, and
- Pay $20 in one of several convenient ways!
The Manitoba UNIX User Group (MUUG) is a local group of computer users,
based in
Winnipeg,
Manitoba,
who share an interest in
UNIX®,
Linux, and open systems technology.
MUUG's main objective is to allow members to meet others
with similar interests, providing a forum for sharing ideas
and information about open systems and their applications.
MUUG was affiliated with
UniForum Canada, when it existed.
MUUG is comprised of members from the education, government
and business communities, with varying levels of UNIX experience.
From its humble beginnings in 1986, the group has grown from about 15 members
to over 50 today.
The group meets at 7:30 PM on the
second Tuesday of every month from September to June.
Meeting locations and presentation topics
vary, but are always announced in advance in the
monthly newsletter.
Membership fees are $20 per year.
MUUG also has a few
mailing lists,
which are used to announce upcoming events, and allow members
(and anyone interested in UNIX and Linux) to exchange information.
MUUG's operation is governed by a set of
by-laws
ratified by the members.
For more information, send us an
e-mail (to
membership@muug.ca
for membership requests, or to
info@muug.ca
for general information and questions).
We aren't yet set up for on-line membership registration for new members.
To apply for membership, you can download our application form
(available in two convenient formats)...
Fill out the form (electronically, or print, fill and scan), and e-mail it to
membership@muug.ca.
For the time being, due to COVID-19 closures, do not send mail to our
postal address.
Or, simply
e-mail us, and provide the
equivalent information; we can then add you to our mailing list,
so you receive a sample newsletter and application form.
Alternatively, just show up at one of our
monthly meetings.
(Guests are always welcome!)
We accept fee payments ($20/year, for new members or renewals) in the following ways:
- Cash (only at in-person meetings)
- Cheque (only in-person at the moment - no postal mail, please)
- Interac e-Transfers:

- Indicate your membership number (for renewals, if you have it handy),
full name, and e-mail address in the appropriate fields,

- You will receive this by e-mail when you're due for renewal.

MUUG is funded in part thanks to the generous support of our
corporate sponsors.
MUUG also operated a
Linux/System-Administration SIG
(special interest group), which used to have its own monthly meetings.
We now meet as part of the general monthly meetings.
MUUG has played a leading role in introducing the Internet to Winnipeg's
computing community.
(This began in 1992, with an online service called
MONA, which then evolved into today's
MUUG Online.)
As a way of continuing that role, we are making several
FLOSS distributions available on our local
mirror.
